Mornings are always the busiest time of the day. Do you press the snooze button for five more minutes of sleep, or do you get up and make yourself something to eat? Decisions, decisions. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but there’s rarely enough time to feed yourself a luxurious breakfast when you need to be out the door.

If you’re super busy, the least you can do is grab some fruit — go for a banana, an orange, or a few strawberries. Bananas are rich in potassium (467 milligrams per banana), can protect the stomach from ulcers, and contain an amino acid that may boost levels of serotonin, which regulates mood. As long as you get something in your system you should be good to conquer the morning, but there are tons of satisfying breakfast recipes that require no time at all to make.

Take the same three fruits, for instance, and make a banana, orange, and strawberry smoothie. Or up your breakfast game and whip up something simple the night before so you won’t have to worry about cooking in the morning. While you’re making dinner, sauté some potatoes and onions in a pan with seasoning — voila, you have hash browns for the a.m. Just take them to work in a Tupperware and warm them up in the staff microwave. You’ll even be able to press the snooze button one more time.

According to the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, “breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Breakfast provides you with the energy and nutrients that lead to increased concentration [at work].” Even if you’re busy, breakfast should be a priority. I like the breakfast smoothie minus the orange juice. I would crunch ice and add more yogurt or throw in milk instead of orange juice. I usually make smoothies for breakfast but when I'm low on cash, I just have a yogurt (if there is no time to make a proper breakfast).

FREECLOUD, it appears in the comment section of the recipe that people have asked if the oatmeal is instant or raw, if it is cooked or uncooked and there isn't an answer. I would imagine that it is raw oatmeal uncooked. There is a comment from the one who submitted the recipe that it has no sodium and instant oatmeal has sodium. I cannot imagine making a smoothie from cooked lumpy oatmeal, so I assume it's raw. Report

10 easy & healthy breakfast-on-the-go ideas

When I was growing up, skipping breakfast was NOT an option in my house.

In fact, if I overslept (which I often did when I was a teenager), my mother would write me a note to excuse me for being late for school to ensure I had a full belly before I left the house.

(It’s such a shame she didn’t make the same exception on the mornings I woke up too late to wash my hair or (worse) hide my face full of pimples…)

The good news is that her insistence that I eat a balanced meal each morning has stuck with me, and since breakfast is important for boosting metabolism, keeping weight gain in check, and giving our brains the fuel it needs to perform at its best, I rarely (if ever) skip it.

The only problem is that, no matter how early I wake up, I am physically unable to make it out of the house on time these days.

Which brings me to the point of this post.

While I’m really good at ensuring my daughter’s blueberry waffles are waiting at the kitchen table when she rises each morning (it’s the only thing she’ll eat before 10 am), I often find myself scrambling to feed myself before we leave for preschool. And since I am not opposed to the idea of eating my breakfast in the comfort of our sedan (we won a free Sirius radio subscription and I love the 90s station!), I decided to hop on over to Pinterest to try and find some healthy (and easy!) breakfast-on-the-go ideas for busy moms.

And since we all know how much I like to share (even if I share a little TMI at times), I decided to put together a post with 10 of my favorite healthy breakfast-on-the-go ideas. Your kids may not like all of these, but you sure will! I love number 5 and 8, and I’m trying number 10 tomorrow!

ESSENTIAL INGREDIENTS IN A KETO BREAKFAST

There are a few staples that you should have on hand when you are on the keto diet. Some fresh ingredients, and some packaged are really easy to grab and will make preparing breakfast a whole lot easier.

Eggs: This is a very popular dish in the keto breakfast world because eggs are very low in carbs, easily accessible, and overall very versatile. A few of the recipes below have eggs in them, but many do not. I know a lot of people get burned out on eggs way too quickly on the keto diet!

Avocados: Avocados are commonly referred to as superfoods and there is a good reason! They are incredibly high in good fat, very low in carbs, and provide a great source of protein. Keeping a few avocados on hand is always a good idea on the keto diet and makes it super easy to have fresh keto breakfast ideas every day.

Keto Bread: Some mornings you wake up and just really want a good carby breakfast. I know I love bagels and scoured the internet until I found keto friendly bagels that would satisfy my bread craving without kicking me out of ketosis.

Almond Flour: If you are making any recipes like muffins or bread, you will most likely be using a really simple flour substitute- almond flour. As keto is becoming more and more popular, you can get substitute flours at most grocery stores now! I prefer to order mine on amazon because I hate going to the grocery store!

Keto Friendly Sweetener: there are a ton of options for keto friendly sweeteners. A few of my favorites that are used in the recipes below are Swerve (there are both granular and powdered sugar options!) Monk fruit sweetener and Stevia are both awesome keto approved sweeteners as well.

10 Healthy Grab-and-Go Breakfast Recipes

If there’s one thing that stresses me out about the whole “back to school” time of year, it’s getting out the door with kids. I don’t know how parents get their kids up, fed, and out the door for school. When we have a 9:00am appointment, I feel like I need to be up at 6:00am just to have enough time to finish my coffee!

In all seriousness though, some mornings likely don’t go as planned for the school drop-off, and you may find yourself rushing the kids out the door without having enough time for breakfast. Skip breakfast before school? Eh, I’d suggest avoiding that whenever possible. Their brains and bodies need the fuel! Inevitably though, you’ll have a morning where there’s not enough time for breakfast. That’s where I’ve got you covered….

What I love about these 10 healthy grab and go breakfasts is that all of them can be prepped ahead of time, some can even be frozen and reheated in seconds. Who doesn’t love a no-fuss meal when you haven’t even had time for a cup of coffee or brushing your teeth?! Sorry, that’s just how I envision our school mornings going when the time comes.

While there are many recipes that could have made the list, these are a few I’ve tried and enjoyed! Because let’s face it: mornings with toddlers are almost as chaotic as getting the kids to school on time! Or so I’m told.

Egg and Toast Cups

[i.e. egg muffins, scrambled egg muffins, eggs baked in muffin tins].

As the only egg-loving person in my house, I like to make egg and toast cups when we have company I know loves eggs too! While there are many versions on the internet you can search for, my variation has whole grain bread— making it a little heartier and filling! You could skip the bread all together, add vegetables, and call them mini frittatas!

Pancake Sandwich

Here are a few of my favorite pancake recipes- both of which can be used for this idea: whole wheat oatmeal pancakes and 5 ingredient blender pancakes. Once you’ve made your pancakes [preferably on the weekend], store all pancakes in the fridge or freezer until morning, then reheat in the microwave or toaster. To assemble the sandwich, take one of the pancakes and spread any kind of nut butter on top, place the other pancake on top to make a sandwich. Voila! A lot easier than cutting a syrup-dipped pancake in the car if you ask me.

Banana Breakfast Bars

While I can’t say this recipe is ideal for a car ride, banana breakfast bars have done well making the trip from our house to the park [all while in the hands of little toddlers in the stroller], so I’d like to think it would work just fine for your school-aged kiddo!

Yogurt Parfaits

A simple, no-recipe breakfast idea that’s completely customizable based on the flavor of yogurt and mix-ins you have at home! Simple layer favorite yogurt and fruit in a mason jar the night before. In the morning sprinkle some granola or oats on top, grab a spoon and you’re ready to head out the door. No mason jars? No worries man! Just use any small resealable plastic or glass container.

No-Bake Granola Bars

Another family favorite! No-Bake Granola Bars are chewy, delicious, and oh-so-portable! Just don’t forget to bring along some water or milk for the car ride!

This one does require a little execution in the morning. But the night before, you can add fruits and other favorite smoothie add-ins to a freezer-friendly plastic bag. In the morning, throw everything in a blender, along with milk or water. Here’s how we make smoothies in our house—with the kid-friendly smoothie guide. And if you don’t want your kids taking the fine china in the car, then consider getting a few of these travel cups so they can enjoy their smoothies in the car.

Freezer Breakfast Sandwich

I phoned a friend for this idea. Or at least I tell myself The Pioneer Woman and I would be friends if we were neighbors. Get her step by step for freezer breakfast sandwiches here. When I make a batch of freezer breakfast sandwiches, I use whole wheat English muffins, breakfast sausage, cheese, and a fried egg. I should probably add more veggies but sometimes I forget that step!

Quick and Easy Homemade Muffins

Ok, you guys know we are muffin-fanatics! I usually make a batch on the weekend and freeze for quick weekday breakfasts and snacks. Our go-to right now? These easy baked pancake muffins. The secret is using your favorite pancake mix [which mine in store bought, making the recipe even easier]. My kiddos would tell you DO NOT forget the chocolate chips! Ok and since we are SO muffin crazed, this recipe for cinnamon applesauce muffins comes in a close second— and also freezes and reheats well!

PB&J Waffle Sandwich

I can’t take credit for the waffle recipe for this one, but I like taking Eggos [yes, I’m reliving my childhood every time I eat an Eggo], spreading one half with peanut butter and the other half with jelly. The nice thing is your kids can help in the kitchen and make this breakfast themselves. Just be sure they wake up a little earlier to do so!

Overnight Oats

My favorite recipe for overnight oats is currently chocolate protein overnight oats. Similar in concept to the mason jar yogurt parfaits, prep the night before in individual jars or resealable containers, and enjoy on the way to school the next morning!
