Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 Ounces Silver Tequila
  • 1/2 Ounce Cointreau
  • 1/2 Ounce Crème de Violette
  • 1/4 Ounce simple syrup

Directions

Mix ingredients and serve in a martini glass; garnish with lime.

The Trophy Margarita

Sweet, simple, and fantastic, the trophy margarita puts a lovely lavender twist on the original margarita and it's just as easy to make. While the drink was designed for Oscar viewing parties, it is fantastic for far too many occasions to count and is a perfect way to impress guests with something unexpected.

This lavender margarita features a great reposado tequila from Roca Patron, an upgrade from Patron Tequila. It takes their already reliable and smooth tequilas to a new level and the reposado is everything you would expect from the top-shelf version. Though it is sold at a higher price point, it is still worth mixing into a great cocktail, you will just want to be more selective.

Once you have the tequila in hand, the rest of the margarita is easy. It features a homemade lavender simple syrup, which replaces triple sec in the original margarita. The syrup actually takes longer to cool than it does to make and if you are a lavender-lover, you will not have any problem finding other floral drinks to use it in.

Lavender Margarita Recipe

Combine sugar, water, and lavender in a saucepan under medium heat.  Stir until sugar is dissolved. Allow to cool completely.  Strain and store in an airtight jar. Add to iced tea or lemonade for a refreshing summer beverage.

Lavender Margarita

dried lavender plus sugar
1 tablespoon lavender syrup
1 1/2 ounces silver tequila
juice of one lime
splash of seltzer

Run a lime wedge around the rim of a glass and dip into sugar and lavender mixture. Fill glass with ice and top with lavender syrup, tequila and lime juice. Finish with a splash of seltzer.

Ingredients:

1 ½ oz silver tequila
1 ½ oz Southern Twist Lavender & Vanilla Cocktail Infusion
1 oz fresh lime juice or 2 squeezes of lime
1/2 oz fresh orange juice or 2 squeezes of orange

Directions:
Combine ingredients in shaker. Shake well and pour ingredients into a rocks glass, or strain ingredients and serve up as a martini. Garnish with lime wedge.

Ingredients
1 ½ oz. silver tequila
2/4 oz. Cointreau

sugar – for rim of glass
dried lavender – for rim of glass

Directions
• In a shaker, combine tequila, Cointreau, & lavender simple syrup.
• Line the rim of the glass with lime juice.
• Place sugar and dried lavender on a plate & line the rim of the glass.
• Fill the glass with ice.
• Shake and strain the liquids in the shaker and use the strainer to pour into the glass.

What is Simple Syrup?

It’s pretty self-explanatory but if you’ve never heard of simple syrup the name says it all: it’s a very simple sweet syrup. Traditionally simple syrup is used in cocktails but you can also add it to so many other things. I’m personally a fan of adding it to my lattes and have included a recipe for lavender coffee below. Making simple syrup is, you guessed it, very simple. However I’m breaking down all the steps below just to make it easier for you.

This was another prize collected on the margarita trail at the King Cole Lounge. It only takes one or two of these to turn you into a merry old soul, so take your time, sit back and relax. Enjoy the fruit of your labors!

Tequila or Mezcal?

Here in the United States, tequila is the go-to spirit because mezcal is a well-kept secret outside Mexico. The Oaxacan spirit is made with multiple varieties of agave and baked in underground pits that impart a smokier, more nuanced aroma and flavor. Tequila and mezcal can be used interchangeably in any margarita recipe.

A Word About Margaret

Margaret who? Actress Peggy (Margaret) Lee is frequently cited as the namesake, but a margarita is more than just a woman’s name. The margarita was created in the late nineteen thirties and is traditionally made with tequila, orange liqueur and lime juice. Since then, mixologists have created a rainbow of flavors for our enjoyment.
